FAQ

Frequently asked questions about Perl 6 and related issues:

  • What's the main idea behind Perl 6?

Freedom of expression, definitely. If you can think of a solution, you should be able to write it in perl 6 the way that feels logically right to you.

  • Why use Perl 6?

The community development process has produced a language that is powerful yet easy to read and write. Compared to other languages, Perl 6 code is usually more compact and is designed to be easier to maintain over the long term.

  • When is Perl 6 ready to use?

Simply, we don't know. We're doing quite well. There are several simultaneous language and implementation projects, but when it's ready we announce it. Next question please.

  • Why does it takes so long?

Because Perl 6 people go where nobody else has the guts to go. And they want to do it right.
